Let s Analyze The Prescribed Medicines For Treating Depression
Considering the high percentage of
depressed Americans (about 10 % of the population to be exact), it should come as no surprise that some form of prescribed
medicines for treating depression is being administered to depressed patients on an almost daily basis. However, based on studies and some documented instances, what should be more of a concern are the side-effects common to
these forms of medications supposedly made for dealing with depression.
Let s go over some of the common ones:
Prozac:
Although this depression medication may adjust the levels of serotonin in the brain (the chemical linked to happiness), this drug
has been proven to have unpleasant mental and physical side effects. Furthermore, any improvement in a depression condition
remains only as long as the drug is used.
Zoloft:
According to the drug s own official website, the most common side effects to this depression medication are episodes of having
any of the following:
-Dry mouth
-Upset stomach
-Decreased appetite
-Fatigue
-Trouble sleeping
-Sexual dysfunction
-Diarrhea, tremor,
The natural tendency of most patients upon being informed of these dangers is to cease the use of these drugs, however, reports
do show that it may not be as easy as it appears to do such.
Withdrawal symptoms to these drugs supposedly have included dizziness, extreme nausea and high fever.
So, where does this leave a patient seeking help?
I would say it will be of uttermost importance at this stage to educate one s self on as many options of dealing with depression
as possible to be able to cope with the problem.
It perhaps may work best with a combination of techniques or approaches-as some experts suggest-but the most important factor is
to remember to be as sure as possible on what combination or exclusive approach you would like to take to handle the signs of
depression you may be going through signs which can be handled
